Welcome to the November edition of the President’s cacheside chat!
Winter seems to have set in early (at least up north it has), and the new year is just around the corner. With new board members in place, we are planning a few new initiatives for 2018. One initiative is to continue a volunteer recognition program that had started back in 2012. Special pins had been created to give out to members who had volunteered for the MnGCA along with tags that could be attached for each year that member volunteered. We will be going through the information that we have and sending out pins/tags for those members who have served the MnGCA in some way since 2012.
The second initiative will be a new, friendly competition for 2018… cache picture of the month. We know there are some great photographers out there and so want to be able to showcase your work. There will be more details coming out soon, but basically every month, MnGCA members can submit one photo that they had taken that month while caching in Minnesota. Members will be able to vote for their favorite photo the following month. We are hoping to create a 2019 calendar of the winning photos. In order to have enough lead time to create a calendar, we will actually start with December, 2017. So, get your cameras and your iphones ready to take some great shots!
The last initiative (at this point) will be the creation of Minnesota Geocaching Permit cards that will be placed in caches around the state. The card will have a link to our website in the hopes that it will help spread the word about our organization. Once these cards are created, you might be given some if you attend a MnGCA event to help spread out into the field. This idea was taken from the Maine Geocaching Association.
The 2017 MnGCA geocoins still have not been delivered yet, but they should be arriving soon. Once that happens, you will be able to purchase them at the online shop or at a MnGCA event.
Finally, with the new website comes a new form for our membership. It is now live on the website for you to complete for your membership with the MnGCA. As always, membership is free! But, we need a list of members for our organization status with the state. Also, this same list is used to verify membership for voting. It only takes a few minutes to complete, and all information is kept confidential. Please go to the following link to complete the form:
