Today 9/14/2017 an evacuation of Hennepin Technical College was ordered. Suspicious package was found. Where it was I do not know. A few short years ago somebody tried to hide a Geocache on campus property. This is not allowed, I informed the reviewer and had it archived. There are no trespassing signs on campus. Only those who have business are allowed on campus. Students, those applying to be students or other legitimate business. If not then you do not belong there. Now I would assume that this is the same at all college campuses. HTC is state run and comes under control of the state. All employees are State. I work there as well. So yes I do know that the law prohibits placing geocache here. Now It is unknown if this package today was a Geocache. But I am posting this to remind all do not even think of placing one on college campus property. A bomb scare will be placed and any seekers may be arrested. Have fun and be safe.

Update; The object at Hennepin Tech. Brooklyn Park campus was a pipe bomb. That is all I will say at this time.

Not all college campuses are under such restrictions, UMM (Morris) for example. Contacting the cache owner and or the reviewer back in the day was a great response. In this instance though, I am happy that it wasn't our group for once. Frustrated that it was something real.

Things changed with 911 world trade center destruction. All college campuses are on tighter restrictions. But not equally so a check with each college will be needed. What a reviewer knew then may not be true now. The cache in question that I had archived was thought to be ok by the reviewer, based on it was not a K-12 school. As far as the reviewer thought all college campus were wide open. He found out from me that it is not true. Long before the cop school was placed on our campus we have had No Trespassing. So to the reviewers I would say please if a cache is placed on any college campus have the hider check with the school.

There are definitely many on the U of M Twin Cities campus. To me that's a very different campus from HTC though as it is so urban and integrated with the city. I can't imagine walking or driving in and hiding a cache at HTC. Glad no one was hurt by the bomb. Not a good day at the office. : ( Anyway, a good reminder from you to not assume colleges are open to caching.
