I am brand-new (shiny hasn't even worn off yet!) at the geocaching game. I'm looking for recommendations for a GPS that can get me started, but does not cost several hundreds of dollars. I'd like one of the Garmins, but they are way outside the budget right now. I suppose I'm looking at the <$150 category. Any suggestions?

First, welcome to MnGCA and geocaching!
For a starter GPS, check out the Garmin E-Trex 10 on Garmin's website. Lots of technology built into a small unit, and Garmin's MSRP is $110. You may be able to get a better price by browsing the sites of the outdoor stores etc.
Be sure to attend some geocaching events if possible. Meet some other cachers and you may be able to get questions answered.
Now, maybe someone else will chime in with their thoughts.

Hawk, thanks for the info. I found the E-Trex 10 on Amazon for $80 so I will snap it up. I plan on attending the Geocaching 101 event at Monson Lake State Park on 9/1.
