In this day and age there are those who will be offended by the symbols and others who would rather not have their gender known. Might be something that you will want to turn off. It seems to me that information was required to sign up. I wasn't sure why.

I always access the forum in my phone and have never seen a gender symbol. Where are you seeing them?
Also, I clicked on my profile. I submitted my gender voluntarily and can see it listed as female. I clicked on yours. Aix sponsa and do not see that info. I think if a user submits that voluntarily it shouldn't be a big deal.

I don't recall how the information was asked for, but in Aix Sponsa's case there is no gender icon, so it must have been optional. I agree - if it was provided then it shouldn't be an issue, and apparently the user had the option of providing it or not.

As long as it is optional all is good. For me it doesn't matter so much. If you have had a daughter who has had a serious stalker that talked about taking her life - murder/suicide, you helped your daughter get a restraining order, and still years later that person and a couple others are still an issue; you become more sensitive to some people's need to remain more incognito.
